The RunninRev Pulse
Issue 2: The one from Lake Gaston. See keep up with the heart beat of the RunninRev Run Club
From the Last Week:
Every so often I do get some vacation, and this last week I used the first part of that vacation to enjoy some time at Lake Gaston. What a beautiful joy it is to spend some time just soaking in God’s beautiful creation. I enjoy coming with my wife’s family to this lake house. While the house is crazy (to say the least with 15 people, including 7 kids), there is such a joy to seeing the kids have fun together and play in the lake.
I have some blog posts that I wrote while I have been on this vacation, and I will be release in them over the coming weeks, so make sure you are subscribed (and if you are able to upgrade to a paid subscription to help support my work.
However, in this weeks newsletter, you can listen to yesterday’s episode of Run Build Grow, see the devotions I released (I released both a free and paid devotion), and I will even have posts to look back on some of my past writings. I am always looking for what you would like to see in these newsletters, besides a highlight of the last week of content. Feel free to leave a comment or message me with some ideas:
Run Thought of the Week:
GET OUT THERE
This has been on my mind A LOT lately.
If you check out my Strava, you will notice that it has been almost a couple of weeks since I have gotten a run in. Now before you start to worry, I am not injured and as far as I know I am healthy. No, I just haven’t had the drive to run. Before I started my vacation, church work was super busy, and I had a lot going on in my mind. This combined with the uncomfortably hot temperatures made running feel difficult.
Then when I started my vacation, as I was packing for the lake, I just wasn’t feeling the push to pack my running gear. All of this has meant that it has been a bit since then. However, now I am feeling that draw again, but honestly, there is some fear about just starting back up. Sometimes this can get in our way. We tell ourselves, it feels easier to just not do it.
But I am here to say, GET OUT THERE!!!
No one cares how fast you are going, or if you are slower or more “out of shape” than you were before. They just want to see you caring for yourself by getting moving. Think of how much you accomplish just by starting. GET OUT THERE!!!!
Run Build Grow
Check out this week’s episode featuring Kathy Donovan. Listen here or find it on your favorite podcast listening app. Find it here
I am always looking for fantastic stories to share through the podcast. If you have a great story of community running or know someone email me or share the podcast or this newsletter with friends.
If you enjoyed listening to Kathy’s episode, be sure to check out other episodes. This week I am going to re-share the episode I did with John Hartzel right before the Shamrock Marathon Weekend. John was the one who connected me with Kathy, and has been a great supporter of the podcast the past seven months. Listen here:
On A Long Run
As I mentioned above, I didn’t release any blog posts this last week. I wanted to take some time and just write without feeling like I needed to post everything.
Deep in the Archives
Many of y’all might know that at the end of each episode of Run Build Grow I say, “Make Every Mile Count.” Well here is a post I wrote about my use of this saying. Even now I reread this article, reminding myself to get back out on the run.

Sermon
Well, I didn’t actually preach a sermon on July 14th as we had our Vacation Bible School Celebration Service. The kids from the week help to lead, teach, and have fun. This Sunday and next Sunday for that matter (July 21 & 28) I will continue to be out of the pulpit as I enjoy some more vacation from my church vocation.
Devotion
Each week I offer a short devotional for people to enjoy and engage in a moment of spiritual discipline. I have changed my content calendar to release a devotion on Tuesday for all subscribers and one on Thursday for paid subscribers. Check out this last week’s devotions, and upgrade if you are interested in these extra posts:
What you might expect this week:
I want to continue to grow this network, and you will continue to notice more changes as I spend some of this time off retooling how you engage with all of my content (don’t worry, not leaving Substack…kind of like it here haha).
I am hoping to continue with the twice weekly devotions. The Tuesday devotion will be for all subscribers, and the Thursday one will be for paid subscribers. Also, keep your eye out for other blog posts that I have scheduled to come out.
I also have some awesome interviews scheduled for this week, and I am hoping to get one off them edited to come out this coming Friday. If you have any suggestions for podcast guests or you have a story to share about running and community, send me a message!
